The Barzan Towers have a spectacular appearance and dominate the country's desert skyline. For more than a century, these towers have provided a vantage point from which to survey the horizons and be ready for attackers, as well as to track the earth for celestial motions.

These structures were created in the late 1800s and later renovated during the reign of Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al Thani in the 19th century. Barzan towers served two purposes: they stood erect as watchtowers, which were constructed to fend against the threat of another Ottoman invasion, and they also served as a location for astronomical observations.

In this place where astronomers studied the moon in Ramadan, this architectural complex consists of two towers, a reception room for guests and a small mosque. Both towers have a rectangular base reinforced with buttresses at the corners. The walls of these towers are about three feet wide and are made of locally available limestone and coral held together by mud and covered with plaster of paris.
