Golf In Qatar: Its Position In The Country

The Qatar Golf Club Association, commonly known as the QGA, was formed in 1991 by the President of the General Authority for Youth and Sports and continues to develop and draw a vibrant interest in the game from Qataris. According to Mike Shoueiry, the QGA's Director of Golf, there are currently over 50 active Qatari members of the QGA, fifteen of them are "strong" players with handicaps in the low single digits, which is an exceptional ratio. Qatar's national squad has done well in international competitions, including the previous two Asian Games.

Add to that Qataris' passion for all things sports, the honor of hosting the 2006 Asian Games (in which golf will be one of the games), new facilities at existing clubs, and the formation of new courses, clubs, and golf associations and the possibilities for Qatar becoming a regional golfing center are secure.

2. Doha Golf Club

Doha Golf Club

Doha Golf Club is one of the region's oldest golf attractions. The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters was held as a second stop on the European Tour's Middle East swing in 1998, and it was then that grass golf in Qatar fully made its mark on the world scene. Andrew Coltart, a young Scot, won the first event, and the tournament has had a star-studded gathering every year since then to further establish its place on the golfing map. Doha Golf Course Club, a 27-hole desert course designed by Peter Harradine, is the epicenter of golf in Qatar.

An 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole, floodlit academy course are available on the property to challenge players of all ability levels. Golfers approaching the 9th and 18th holes on the Championship Course are greeted by an opulent Arabian-style clubhouse with a friendly club ambiance and InterContinental Hotel Group's 5 star food and beverage service. Everyone knows everyone, and other members and the welcoming staff will always treat you as a friend. Driving range Doha, a full-length  eight lakes on the course, and hundreds of trees and plants make up the Championship course.

The vegetation is both indigenous to the area and transplanted from other arid settings throughout the world, such as Arizona in the United States. When the wind picks up in the afternoon, it may rapidly become a force to be reckoned with when you're playing. Morning tee times, on the other hand, are usually more forgiving in terms of playing conditions. You can make a decision based on your preferences. Doha Golf Club prices are mentioned below.

This is a true desert course, having been built by oil workers many years ago. You'll be given a small astro turf mat to carry around, and if your ball falls on the fairway, you'll pick it up and hit it off the mat. You take your chances off the desert sand if you're not on the fairway. Greens are actually black tar that has been flattened. If this all sounds strange, be assured that once you get used to it, it works rather nicely. If you bring your trunks and fancy a dip, there's a beautiful pool as part of the clubhouse area at the end. If you're ever in the region, you should check out this beautiful course.
