The first exhibition was held back in 2008 at Souq Waqif. The gallery shifted to Katara Art Center in 2014 which become a permanent exhibition place.  With its success, Al Markhiya Gallery opened its second place close to the Doha fire station studios. The months of September till May have seen several exhibitions which of course have brought in something new each time. Tourists visiting from around during the summers, can see some of the exquisite art collection.

Connections: Celebrating Qatar

Connections is one of the finest and exclusive exhibitions show showcases the work of all the Qatar artists studied in the USA.  Several artists who have studied art and design are given a wide platform to showcase of their best work. The artwork showcases how artists connect with the outside world including their own personal lives. The major contribution has been to the Qatar- USA year of culture 2021.  To assist in creating and promoting cultural exchanges and connecting with one another, the year of culture was given birth too.

Once a upon a time, Reason was a support to bring out ideas, but times have changed. It is said that our experiences are our biggest teachers as it teaches us to reach big heights of the unseen world. Pharmaceutical politics has been intertwined with hope which means to save the population. The problem has become a façade that has tampered with culture and social environment. Various forms of garments are taken: a leather shield, silver metal chains, or a leather veil attached to the neck or hand by precaution and prudence.

The result is limitation, control and compulsion, seen in precaution. The oscillation of trust and understanding to the old doctrine with the new ideas of the modern world, is what presence causes. A blend of both brings forth a different meaning of precautionary policy concerns- starting with internal monitoring and external tracking- leading to exploring new ideas of knowledge and memory. Actions, tribulations and setting a new course to self-morality is brought into question.

Seasons Melodies

The artist are given a new meaning to the landscapes and interiors with several blocks of colors and has brought out elegance in the natural light. The art showcases a sense of serenity, and attracts the audience to come closer and study the subject in detail.

The artist has used rich and harmonic colors and the paint is applied in thick coats to accentuate the interiors in heavy textures.  Sun, wind and water are reverberated with a fine glow that connects the viewer with nature. 2030 offers a fine collection of annual summer group exhibitions that support and stimulate visual arts society. Narrative

Hilda Hiary and Ali Hassan, a Jordanian artist and Qatari artist have come together to portray their artistic practice on an international platform. A combination of media artwork grabs one’s attention and sparks a debate among the artists.  Portraits of people offer several kinds of elements which include a variety of shapes and colors. Ali Hassa, a well-known artist is known for his signature semi-abstract compositions showcasing three metal sculptures and four paintings.

Bouthayna Al Muftah and Mubarak Al Thani- A Whole New World of Art

Hollow Fragments

Al Muftah, in her most recent art work, used media to express her theme. The artist discovers time and the perception of it through the eclectic use of materials. How has culture transformed and does it still have the same symbolism, is one of the many questions often asked. Has globalization and pervasive social media or the internet taken over our history with old traditions that seems to have taken a back seat.

Times have changed the relationship between the basic fundamentals that make up the social, cultural and heritage fabric. The very essence of the decorative elements of why, what, who, when and where have been reduced.

The artist pays attention to narrating a single story of the past repeatedly. The purpose is to keep them alive and fight for its originality and ethnicity through urbanization and globalization. Her recent painting pays homage to the depleting symbolization of the past.

Mubarak Al Thani

The artists body of work has been inspired by the rise of the masses, expansion of cities and change of urban culture, which discovers a wide platform of labeling and shaming, given birth to by culture, socioeconomic status, politics and technological advancements. The changes are visible in beauty and acceptable behavior. Mubarak brings changes in visual life through color, geometric abstraction and literal expressionism.

Miniature 2021

Artists are challenged to create a several works of arts and to curate them in a way that enables them to have a small exhibition within a large presentation. The artistic process is what defines the 2nd and 3rd series of the exhibition. What defines the artistic process? What can be seen in it? The central nervous system is what brings out the creativity in an artist. Art making is a process that offers a range of ideas, passion, research and experimentation, needed to create detailed work of art. A summer showcase was something that was introduced back in 2017, showcasing Qatari and local artists. Several multiannual exhibitions offer affordable art at first time art collectors. Art work is portrayed within 50*50 centimeters. An outsider is given a platform to discover an artist’s voice.

Watercolor

People+ Things By Abushariaa Ahmed

One of the many things to do in Qatar is to explore the online exhibition “people and things”, an exhibition by Abushariaa Ahmed, a Sudanese artist. Ink drawings rich in ornamental and patterned symbols of his culture and Arabic calligraphy defines his work. Influenced by the 1960 modernist movement, Ahmed gave shape to the country’s identity.
